Kiteboarding & Destinations

I guess, we need to add a section regarding "Kiteboarding" on our website as this is definitively one of our new "passions".

We will share here some info on "kiteboard" related projects as well destinations. This page is "work in progress" but don't hesitate to check in time to time for updates

Kiteboarding in St. Martin, FWI

We got to meet Pierre from B52 Kiteschool a couple of years ago in St. Martin and we took some of our first lessons with him.

The lessons take place in deep water inside the lagoon of St. Martin and his school is based at the Village of Le Flamboyant on the French Side of St. Martin.

We can really recommend Pierre as he is a good teacher and a great friend. He has a prime location, he will make you kite/foil inside the lagoon a very secure location and flat water perfect to learn this activity.

We also did our first "foiling" experiences with him behind the boat - like wake boarding but above the water. We did definitively get "addicted" by this sensation but still need to improve our kiting skills before starting the "adventure" of foiling.

Turks & Caicos

If there is a "paradise" for kiteboarding - this comes probably pretty close.

The water is turquoise blue, almost 30 degrees Celsius and crystal clear.

As we didn't know the area and wanted to finally learn how to kite upwind, we took some lessons with "...". The service and kiting were great. Robert picked us up at the marina and brought us to the beach where his teachers took good care of us. The wind is onshore and they brought us a bit upwind with a dinghy so we didn't have to walk or swim. In the meantime the teacher took the kite and board and kited upwind to a safe area away from the beach. The teachers first showed the exercises and explained well the different steps and goals to achieve. They than stayed in the spot to supervise and advice.

To come back to the kiting - the water is just perfect and the bride was great with optimal orientation for learning and enjoying. We did great progress as in such conditions: nice breeze, flat water and sun - going upwind was really "easy". We are looking forward to more kiting in this perfect conditions...

Outerbanks - North Carolina - US East Coast

We did our first kiteboarding lessons in Hatteras, North Carolina. The conditions are great in the sound with shallow water, not to cold and nice breeze, this was back in 2014. Unfortunately work got in the way and winter came along so we didn't get very far in our learning curve. I still wanted to mention the area as it looks like a great place to kite. For those who are looking for big waves, the advantage of the Outerbanks is that there is the sound on one side and the Atlantic Ocean just across from the "sand bank". Maybe we will go back there for kiteboarding one day - never say never ;-)

Bahamas

One of our next destinations - let's hope there is wind to fly the kites...
