New "toy" - 3D printer

We have some more projects lined up that are not easy to achieve "old school" - time for some more "new technologies". We get new electronics parts for the Boat project and want to protect those with custom protection encapsulations. After lots of "reflection" - the obvious solutions seems to be to "dust it yourself" with a 3D printer.  Due to the "small" quantity of custom parts that we need to produce, it is more effective to use this process and we get away with a new toy.

First step, getting to know the new "toy" and its countless options and huge "potential" of custom parts...

In addition to our cnc machine - lets get printing...

Even before getting to print the first 3D parts, it was time to mount the 3D printer. It came as a kit and has to be mounted first. This also gets you to know the equipment. The mounting instructions are extremely well done -nicely explained and very detailed. The first instructions for the test prints are a bit more tricky. It takes a bit of time to find out the correct settings for the speed, material feed, temperatures etc.

And there is a variety of different print materials available on the market - not easy to get your head around all the different characteristics other than the fact that some are black, orange or white...

First 3D printed part
First 3D printed part - for the 3D printer itself (helps to spin the roll of material on top of the printer)
3D Printing - test parts for setting up the new machine
3D Printing - test parts for setting up the new machine

The first printed part is not only a test part but can also be used to install the rolls of material on the top of the printer and helps to spin the material spool.

As mentioned this is only the beginning - there are many more parts to be printed and lots of options and possibilities - very exciting three dimensional times ahead - keep on checking our blog posts and let's "dust it yourself"...
