Our Workshop:
"Our Workshop" deserve a capital letter not because it is big, but because it's our favorite spot at the house and the one we spend most of our time. This shop is actually rather small and modest, despite this fact we feel that we can achieve and produce anything. From Mechanic to Composite, Electricity to Paint, this sometime requires some rearrangements, time to time moving things and spreading out around the rest of the house for storage, but it works. This is mostly due to our selection of smart tools that allows for modularity and flexibility.
The CNC
This is a STEPCRAFT 840 and we mounted it ourselves as it comes as a kit. This CNC is the right compromise for us. Between the size of the parts we want to produce and the room available, we have taken the right choice. The versatility of this machine is also a bonus. Indeed we have 2 different spindles and a drag knife. Maybe a later investment will be a laser for cutting and engraving. But for now we have invested in consolidating the base by purchasing an Aluminum bed. This increases the stiffness of the machine and the precision.
To cut carbon we use a water bath proposed by Stepcraft. It cools down the bit and avoids dust. The great thing about Stepcraft is that they propose an extraction specially made for the machine. It works very well with dust but if there are chips you need to clear the collector time to time. Not a big deal.
All in all a really great tool and great for D.I.Y. - since beginning of the year we have already produced over 400 custom parts.

We love this Work Bench. We can take it with us at the boatyard when needed. It folds really easily and fit perfectly in the trunk of the car.
At the work shop / garage it is the center of all the operations, always set up and ready. It is very easy to cut the stocks for the CNC. Once set up correctly, what a gain of time as there is no need to check for perpendicularity for each cut. You can do repetitive cuts and they will all be the same.
Ultrasound bath
Our latest acquisition as we come across a lot of metal parts that need deep cleaning - especially since we start our 2CV project.
We have opted for a 20 l sized ultrasound bath as this allows us to fit medium size engine parts.
So far we have cleaned the carburetor of Yasmine, lots of bolts, drill bits, hole saws and other metallic parts and it is coming in very handy.
The sound of this machine is really irritating but WOW!!! It saves time, no need to have fingers in solvants for hours of scrubbing, scratching scrunching....... aaaarrrrggghh I really used to hate this. And now with this "Magic machine" the result is Spotless.
