Yasmine 2CV - Gearbox Bracket

Old and new gear box bracket
Easy to identify which one is the new and which is the old bracket

Some more maintenance for Yasmine, our green 2CV from 1978 and a new DIY project. This project was a bit of a dirty one but not so much dust. We love that the result is actually visible - when you check the engine bay.

The bracket that supports the gearbox and engine in place needed to be changed and we used the occasion for some cleaning the area as well. The bracket with silent blocks is placed in the aft area of the engine compartment. Actually we have the impression that working in the engine bay of a 2CV is more accessible than most engines and generators mounted on boats. The engine isn't that big on a 2CV and there is space and easy access to most of the important equipment.

First step was some cleaning in the area to actually be able to access the mounting bolts.

Before cleaning
Before - the gear box bracket is visible in the center

We removed quiet some dirt, it seems like nobody has cleaned this area for a while. Than we removed the bracket and fitted the new one. The result is nice and shiny. Still not perfectly clean but we are working on improving this fact.

After - bracket installed
Looking much better - still some work ahead but will make Yasmine "like" new

Job done - We could have called it a DIRT IT YOURSELF project as we were covered in grease and dirt by the end with a big smile on our faces.
